Neurosurgeon & Bioethicist | Brown University Health and Massachusetts General Brigham | Providence, RI and Boston, MA

Dr. Theresa Williamson is a neurosurgeon, bioethicist, and leader focused on connecting cutting-edge neurotechnology to the patients who need it most.

She directs multiple centers focused on minimally invasive spine surgery and neurotechnology innovation, while also leading the Neurotech Justice Accelerator, an initiative designed to improve access to emerging neurological care.

The Journey

Her work is deeply personal.

"Everything about my work is deeply rooted in my background..."

She credits her aunt, who worked with children with intellectual disabilities, as a formative influence. That experience shaped her understanding of individualized care and the importance of meeting people where they are.

What This Recognition Means

For Dr. Williamson, the recognition reflects the patients, teams, and collaborators who have been part of her journey.

She views it as acknowledgment of work that has taken a unique path within neurosurgery while staying grounded in access and equity.

What’s Next

She is focused on building systems that help patients with neurological injuries access life-changing technologies.

Her work addresses not only clinical innovation, but also the structural barriers that prevent patients from benefiting from it.

"Follow your story and what you are passionate about."

Dr. Williamson’s work asks a critical question. Innovation matters, but who has access to it matters even more.
