Ryan Mouton

BHC 40 Under 40 | Class of 2026 | At the Helm

Executive Director | GW Medicine | Washington, DC

Ryan Mouton is a board-certified advanced practice pharmacist and healthcare operations executive whose career bridges both retail pharmacy and academic medicine. He brings deep expertise in healthcare management, 340B, HIV, and ambulatory care pharmacy, along with an MBA from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.

Across his work at Albertsons, CVS, and now The George Washington University, Mouton has built and led high-performing teams, launched centers of excellence, and driven strategic initiatives that strengthen both operational performance and the patient and provider experience.

The Journey

Mouton’s journey into healthcare was shaped early by his grandparents.

As a child, he would accompany them to pick up prescriptions, experiences that felt routine at the time but left a lasting impression.

"Years later, when I learned what can happen when a pharmacist dispenses the wrong medication to a patient, something clicked."

That realization transformed those early memories into purpose. It clarified his commitment to ensuring that care is delivered safely, thoughtfully, and with the attention every patient deserves.

What This Recognition Means

For Mouton, this recognition reflects a journey rooted in advancing health equity and showing up for communities that have too often been overlooked.

It is also a reminder that the work has never been about individual achievement. Instead, it is about building systems where excellence and equity are aligned, and where patients and providers are both supported.

What’s Next

Mouton’s focus is on scale in every sense.

After years of leading pharmacy operations across multiple settings, he is working to extend the reach of the care he helps deliver so that more patients, particularly those in underserved communities, benefit from thoughtful and equitable service.

At the same time, he remains committed to developing the next generation of pharmacy and healthcare leaders.

"My advice is simple: just get things done, and check your ego at the door while you do it. Always remember that the patient comes first. And never forget to care for the caregiver, because the teams behind that care deserve the same compassion we ask them to give every day."

Mouton’s leadership reflects a balance that is essential in modern healthcare. Operational excellence must exist alongside compassion, and systems must always remain accountable to the people they serve.
