Tony C. Price Jr.

BHC 40 Under 40 | Class of 2026 | For the Culture

Senior Fellow | NAACP Center for Health Equity | Atlanta, GA

Dr. Tony C. Price Jr. is a public health leader working to advance health equity at a national scale. As Senior Fellow at the NAACP Center for Health Equity, he provides leadership across initiatives focused on addressing disparities and improving outcomes for communities across the country.

His work is rooted in chronic disease prevention, physical activity, and community-centered health strategies. He brings a perspective that connects research, policy, and lived experience in ways that keep people at the center of the work.

The Journey

Price’s path into healthcare began with a moment that shifted his perspective.

During an alternative spring break trip in college, he volunteered at a children’s hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, where the focus was on childhood obesity.

"That was my first formal exposure to the world of public health."

What started as a single experience became a direction. It introduced him to the broader systems that shape health and opened the door to a career focused on addressing those challenges.

From that point forward, he remained in the field, building experience and contributing to work that continues to grow in scope and impact.

What This Recognition Means

For Price, this recognition is both an honor and an affirmation.

It holds particular meaning because it comes within a community of peers who share similar commitments and values. He sees it as recognition not just of his work, but of the collective effort to advance health equity across disciplines.

At the same time, it reinforces the importance of staying aligned with purpose and continuing to contribute in meaningful ways.

What’s Next

Price is focused on advancing health equity across the nation while continuing to elevate the stories of the communities at the center of the work.

He recognizes that data alone is not enough. Stories, experiences, and voices are critical to shaping how health equity is understood and addressed.

His work moving forward will continue to connect research, advocacy, and storytelling in ways that drive both awareness and action.

"Somebody somewhere is counting on you to be what you were called to do."

Price’s work reflects a clear commitment to purpose. It is not only about improving systems, but about ensuring that the people within those systems are seen, heard, and represented.
